Holy Baptism

(aka Christening)

Baptism, or Christening, is the formal admission of a person to the Christian faith and a welcome into the Church's family.

To enquire about Baptism, we ask that you visit the Church Office,  (in the Church, open most Wed, Thurs, Friday 10.00 - 11.00am - 0191 410 0745) where you will fill in a simple form with a few basic details and be given some information about Baptism and St Johns. It may be possible to arrange a date if you have one in mind.

Nearer the date of the Service, we will arrange to visit you to discuss things in more detail and you will be invited to a short preparation meeting (normally the first Sunday morning of the month of the Baptism Service). Here one of the ministers will explain the Service and show you what will happen.

At St Johns, our Baptisms are usually in a separate Sunday morning Service at 12.00. It lasts 30-40 mins and 1 - 2  people will normally be Baptised.

We have a small Baptism welcome group and a member of that group will greet the family and be with you to guide you through the Service.

The Church Hall, a 2 min walk across the Church yard, has recently undergone a major refurbishment. If you need a convenient venue afterwards it is available for private bookings and also has a licensed bar. Please ask at the Office.

There is a small car park adjacent to the Church Hall. The yellow lines around the access roads to the Hall apply at any time, and parking officers have issued tickets on Sundays.  However we  ask that you tell family and friends  not to park in the neighbouring pub car park (The Moulders Arms) as our midday Baptisms coincide with their lunch time opening and using their car park can cause  serious inconvenience to their customers.
